About model parameters

Model parameters in Fitting are all the parameters set on the Scenarios sheet of the model.  Therefore, in order to fit a (non-reaction) parameter, it must be listed on the Scenarios sheet of the model.

Fitting the same parameter in different Scenarios

When fitting model parameters, data from only one Scenario should be selected, since normally, a different parameter value is required for each Scenario.  For example, when fitting heat transfer coefficients (U values) for three different operating conditions in a vessel:

  1. Give each experiment a separate scenario and put the appropriate heat/cool data in a corresponding data sheet.
  2. Run the fitting exercise three times by selecting only one scenario at a time and running until a fit is achieved.
  3. When all three separate fitting exercises have been completed, Update the master model.
  4. The model will then contain three different U values (one for each Scenario).
  5. If you run all the Scenarios in Simulator you will see that each value has been fitted correctly.

Note: if all of the scenarios had been selected, the Fitting module would attempt to find a single U value that best fitted all the experimental results.

Adding model parameters to be fitted

  1. Click on the Select Model Parameters button  in the View toolbar.
  2. The window displays the names of the parameters for selection, but not their values.

  3. Double-click on the model parameter you want to fit and it will be added to the list.
  4. The parameter, its initial (Scenarios sheet) value and unit are added to the list.
